Attendees of the KBB Careers Day:

"Together, we are committed to closing the KBB skills gap by empowering individuals to retrain and upskill through targeted training and apprenticeship opportunities."

The Journey of an Apprentice

šŸ“¢ On October 17, 2024, we embarked on an inspiring new journey! šŸš€

Simon Acres and Kordian Pach had the privilege of visiting Adroit Services | Amazing Bathrooms to kick off an 18-month collaboration showcasing the real-life journey of their outstanding apprentices. šŸ“½ļø

Our mission is to demystify the apprenticeship processā€”from recruitment and training to demonstrating how apprenticeships can fuel business growth. By sharing the apprentice’s journey and highlighting the dedication of employers and suppliers, we aim to inspire more KBB industry and Merchant companies to embrace apprenticeships. šŸ†

A heartfelt thank you to Peter Butt and his team for their unwavering commitment to nurturing talent. Alongside our communications, we are producing an insightful film šŸŽ¬ for the South East Young Apprentice Ambassador Network, supporting additional hires, particularly among SMEs šŸŒ±.

Weā€™re proud to spotlight the real impact apprentices can have when given the right support! šŸ¤—

If youā€™re considering hiring an apprentice, learn from those whoā€™ve successfully done it, and donā€™t hesitate to ask questions as we document this journey. šŸ“½ļø

Stay tuned for more updates!

What we have learnt so far:

We are proud to share the results of our collaboration: a series of films designed to inspire everyone considering taking on an apprentice, as well as those who have chosen an apprenticeship as their path.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape your future and embark on the journey to becoming a skilled business professional. šŸŒŸ

Skills & Apprenticeship HubThis project was designed to support the KBB industry and help bridge the skills gap for a stronger future.

The project builds on our previous initiatives for the KBB industry, particularly the twice-organised Careers Day ā€“ "How to Hire More Apprentices" ā€“ and our Apprenticeship and Skills Hub at the Installer Show.

Simon Acres Group is an industry ambassador of apprenticeships, training and self-development in the Kitchen Bedroom Bathroom & Merchant industries.

By researching problems and finding solutions on how to hire more apprentices, we aim to support the industry in addressing the shortage of talented individuals, thus minimising future workforce challenges.

What we have learnt so far:

1. Choose a training provider and for non-levy payers, (wage bill less than Ā£3m) you may now receive 100% funding for the apprenticeship training costs.
2. There are many apprenticeship providers – we can help to choose the most relevant and proven
3. From 1st April 2024, the minimum wage for apprentices will be Ā£6.40 per hour, applicable to those aged 16-18 and for 19 or over, who are in their first year.
4. There are payment grants available to employers Ā£1,000 plus for apprentices at the start of their apprenticeship.
5. The apprentice’s working hours will need to be 20% spent off-the-job training.
6. On top of coursework, successful apprentices are marked pass, merit, or distinction after typically, a written skills test, practical demonstration of work and a professional discussion with an assessor.
