Shedding Light on Innovation
In this episode of our podcast, we sat down with Michael Linsky, a leading figure at Sensio Group, to explore the journey of one of the UK’s most innovative lighting companies, from its humble beginnings to becoming a trusted name across kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and beyond.
Michael’s story is one of passion, persistence, and people, showing how the right mix of innovation and education can transform not only a business but an entire industry’s approach to lighting.
Meet Sensio Lighting
Sensio Lighting is a UK-based company that designs and supplies 12V & 24V LED lighting solutions for the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, leisure, and specification sectors. They’re known for combining high-quality engineering with user-friendly design, creating lighting that’s as smart as it is beautiful.
But behind the brand is a story of real people, problem-solving, and purpose.
From a Van and a Vision
Q: Michael, let’s start at the beginning. How did Sensio come to life?
Michael:
It really started with me, a van, and a few boxes of lights and cables! I was out there meeting people, understanding what the market needed, and slowly building relationships. Over time, we grew from a small operation into a structured business with an amazing team. The goal has always been to simplify lighting — to make it easy for both retailers and consumers to understand and use.
Lighting Has Changed — And So Has Retail
Q: The retail world looks very different today. How have you seen it evolve?
Michael:
Massively. Years ago, lighting was an afterthought — something you’d add at the end of a kitchen project. Now, it’s central to the design conversation. Customers want layers of light, colour temperature options, and smart controls. Retailers have had to adapt, and our role has been to support them with education, training, and resources that help them stay ahead.
The Role of Training and Team Culture
Q: You’ve mentioned training several times. Why is it such a focus for Sensio?
Michael:
Because knowledge empowers our partners. When a designer or retailer understands lighting properly, they can create far better results for their clients. That’s why we invest heavily in training — both internally for our staff and externally for our trade partners. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about building confidence and capability across the industry.
Lighting as a Lifestyle Choice
Q: Lighting seems to be moving beyond just function — into wellness, aesthetics, and mood. What’s driving that?
Michael:
Absolutely. People now realise that lighting affects how you feel — your focus, your energy, even your sleep. We’re designing with that in mind: tunable whites, dimmable LEDs, and lighting that adapts to your life. It’s about creating spaces that feel right, not just look good.
The Future is Bright
Q: What’s next for Sensio Lighting?
Michael:
Innovation will always be at our core. We’re expanding into more connected lighting systems and continuing to refine our product lines for simplicity and performance. But more than that, we’re focused on people — our customers, our partners, and our team. Because when you build a strong culture, great things follow.
Final Thoughts
Our chat with Michael offered a refreshing look at an industry in transformation. Sensio Lighting isn’t just about LEDs and fittings — it’s about education, experience, and evolving with the needs of modern living.
